Accountability

The warm feeling of pleasure and superiority and knowledge and understanding — that is a result of our escape into a mindless and depersonalized realm of ideas and doctrines fueled by mass and social media. The constant buzz gives content and fills the space (especially between the ears), so no deeper analysis is needed. All answers are simple and expected. All solutions are just within the reach, and if something isn’t easily obtainable then it is not really worth the effort, or (most commonly) is purely and singularly the fault of somebody else — a specific person, or a group of people, basically the others.

The truth of the matter, and that might be a very painful truth, is that everyone is accountable to themselves for their life and character and life. And everyone needs to confront it.

Excuses are easy and falsely gratifying and utterly pointless. Especially when the excuse is to blame those demonic others for our faults, or for unrealized unrealistic expectations about our lives and our lives. It seems to me that accountability — personal accountability — is going out of fashion and downright extinct in the same way as decency and truthfulness already went. It bothers me that it is no longer a matter of pride and self-satisfaction to take responsibility and answer yourself about your life and your lot in it. Why cast blame and why wait for a magical solution or turn of events to make everything better without any work, or even without attempting to make any change? Not everything is going to be easy, not everything is supposed to be easy, and you cannot always get what you want. But if and when you do — satisfaction is tremendous. And it doesn’t have to be instant, getting to a goal and seeing changes made by small steps is very rewarding. And I know if I am asked to give an account of my life I will be able to answer truthfully and fairly — to myself.
