Alpha and omega
September 17th, 2024
I’ve been feeling quite ignorant recently. More ignorant than usual, and ignorant on matters that seem obvious. Or at least they seem obvious at the exact moment of realization of their meaning. I don't mind being ignorant if I keep changing that ignorance into knowledge or at least into some semblance of understanding. Each situation like that gives me a strong push toward finding more information and more questioning of what I already think I know. It was the same with the idea of alpha and omega.
Of course, I knew what alpha and omega meant. It is a simple idea of showing the totality of something — be it knowledge or presence or idea. What I didn't know was the ancient meaning of this phrase — it meant union in an all-encompassing way, the union between male and female, between masculine and feminine. A completion of one that cannot happen without the other. A completion of a singularity that requires both separate participants to join together. Obviously. And that is so obvious now that I cannot believe I missed it, or simply did not pay attention.
