footsteps of the Furies
2 min readAug 11, 2021

Few things make me so angry as people who deny the reality of climate change and global warming. Especially because of the looming powerlessness to stop the upcoming doom — I already know it is too late. All this talk about acting now is pointless. We know that nobody will do shit about it. We are fucked. I am 47 years old and I can tell that in my lifetime climate HAD CHANGED. Weather patterns are more unpredictable, spring and fall are much shorter, summers are longer and much warmer. Groundwater levels are falling. More drought conditions lead to more wildfires with widespread nature and wildlife (and human) destruction. Heavily populated parts of the world (especially Central Asia/Middle East/India) will become uninhabitable which will lead to mass migration on a scale not seen since antiquity. There will be more and more civil unrest with wars over access to water sources (like a very likely war between Ethiopia vs. Egypt and Sudan over Ethiopia building new dams on the Nile and threatening to limit Nile’s flow). There will be more and more authoritarians who will get political power and implement fascist, nationalistic policies in the name of safety and security. It’s not just about rising sea levels and melting the Arctic. In 20–50 years our lives will be unrecognizable from what we know now and will be much, much worse.

And whom do I blame for this?

  • Jeff Bezos and his ilk (especially the clown Musk) for their insatiable greed
  • Greed overall, our greed to have more and more junk, but mostly impersonal greed of international corporations and their shareholders
  • Religious folks who believe that our planet and nature is their dominion
  • “Well-meaning” affluent western world middle class and their drive for bigger houses in the suburbs, bigger SUVs, easier air travel, and more junk to buy to fill those houses and their empty lives
  • All the fat fucks (mostly Americans but now present in every corner of the world) who stuff their fucken faces with hamburgers made from Brazilian cattle — where more and more of Amazon rain forest is cut down for new grazing areas
  • Overall stupidity and ignorance of 90% of the general public, lack of education, and grassroots action

And as always when/if any action will be taken to alleviate this problem, it will be too late and then there will crying and handwringing. Why so much stupidity and greed is in our human nature?
