Changing defaults

Sarah Shook

There are a lot of songs that follow me around. I am listening to a lot of new music again. All favorites are good to revisit once in a while, but again I am on a search and a prowl for something new, something that will grab me and possibly will become a new classic in a music library of my mind. Or maybe even better — a song that will become a soundtrack to a particular moment in time in my life.

I heard this song above on the radio two days ago. I liked it right away, but there were more songs already playing in my head, so I forgot this one. Until yesterday that is, when that song came up on the radio again. Now I was hooked. The radio I listened to is a free-form radio which can be heard online, but they have no playlist on their website (the radio is if anybody wants to know). Now I had to find out who is the singer and what is this song. All I had was a partial lyric — “sun is shining, and my eyes are clear” I remembered, and I thought that would be enough. But it wasn’t — on Google I would get a lot of answers for different songs, but not for this one. I tried to use different spellings and tried to use some words I remember from when I heard this song — “atmosphere” and “I got this” but still to no avail.

I tried a different search engine, just hoping for a miracle. I mean — if Google doesn’t know what it is, who can know it? And you know what, the first answer using Qwant was a correct one. I got the artist — Sarah Shook and the Disarmers and the song “I got this”. Easy-peasy. But apparently not for Google. I’ve been using Google as my default search engine for years and years at home and at work and didn’t complain. Apparently, they are better options that I wasn’t aware of until yesterday. And since yesterday my default search engine is not Google, I am using several different ones now until I can settle for the one I feel is the best for me. Seems like a change of something that is there just by default is needed once in a while. This time I was forced to make this change because I just needed to find out what song I listened to. I wonder how many other things I do just by default because I am used to them, and I am not aware of a better alternative?
