Do nothing

March 9th, 2024

Let’s do nothing. Nothing at all. Since nothing can change the situation, nothing is to be done. And I am going to do nothing as well. Well, except for laughing. Maniacal and psycho-like laughter is what I will do. Not now, but in thirty years, when I am closing on my natural life span, I will do nothing but laugh. I will not point fingers, I will not say “I told you so”, although it would be tempting to do just that. But no, I will only laugh — at you and your children and your grandchildren and all your descendants in general.

It is the beginning of March and in my garden, located in north-east Poland, nature is already in bloom. It is not normal for this time of the year for this latitude. Also, it is not the “new normal”, that is just inane gibberish. Well — it is new, but it is not normal. This situation is terrifyingly abnormal. Flowers shouldn't be blooming and be well above ground on the 9th of March. Last year that happened in the second part of March. Twenty years ago, spring awakening would come in April or early May. Now, there is a visible, rapid acceleration of climate change and nobody cares, and nobody seems to be giving a fuck about it. So, I will not care either. I will wait until in thirty years there are widespread droughts and unlivable temperatures and there is no winter anymore and climate-forced migration will send tens (hundreds?) of millions of people on treks across continents and nations in search of relief and there will be a subsequent societal collapse. Then I will laugh my ass off. You had your chances, but nobody gave a damn when something could have been done about it because it was too inconvenient for the current way of your life. And the money, of course — there was no way to do anything to upset stock markets and shareholders…
