Enoch the prophet (and seer and the one who was so righteous to never die and who now walks with god) and the book of Enoch (with derivative books 2 Enoch and 3 Enoch) were erased from knowledge and erased from canon and erased from memory and removed from veneration. WHY? Not completely, of course, as a short mention in Genesis (Gen 5:21–24) shows, but Enoch doesn't have a place in mainstream Christian religious thought he richly deserves. Again WHY? The official story is that the idea and the vision of the books of Enoch were not in step and presented a substantial variance with mainstream Rabbinic Judaism, and then, by extension with early Christianity. That is a stupid explanation considering that every single book of the Old Testament taken by itself can be described in this same way — as a narrative variable on various themes presented there.

I have some ideas why, but I want to work on them some more before sharing. But in a nutshell — Enoch and the books bearing his name were too interesting and influential and TOO PROPHETIC and too dangerous to allow the general public to know. Christianity followed suit with an added reason — the fact that a human being can be allowed not to die by the Almighty and taken to heaven without the need for the final judgment was against the Messianic dogma of redemption of sins. Only one group — straddling the divide between real Judaism and real Christianity — preserved them within their community. I mean the Essenes, of course. From them, those books and the knowledge migrated to Ethiopia — where the local Christianity and Judaism were (and still are) purer and closer to the essence of the faith than any church or synagogue today. And in late antiquity, they were found in the Balkans — very close in time and geographical proximity to Bogomil heresy, which is a very interesting coincidence…
