Good change

“Oh, look at you, do you know that you’re one of only five guys here? And you will have to dance with all of us tonight?” a passing coworker just said to me. Now I don’t know about dancing, but looking at the people on the bus on the way to the work conference I realized that out of thirty people here, five are men.

I worked all my life in some way or the other involved in the manufacturing process. I worked in different factories and manufacturing plants, hands on in the beginning, now as a numbers cruncher. And there were women working there of course, but in accounting or HR of similar departments. Looking at people at my new work place today I suddenly realized that I work mostly with women and they are specialist positions as technologists, engineers, project leaders, production managers. And that is so normal that it is even hardly worth noting (except for bigots and misogynists). It wasn’t as normal barely a generation ago. It is a huge change for good and one that happened quickly and now this just is. Great stuff!
