Incessant chatter
May 22nd, 2023
Is there a way, a gentle and polite way to tell a large group of people to shut the fuck up? Or if that is not possible, how can I find the guts to say the same in a rude and loud way — stooping to their level in the process? Something needs to be done, and it seems that I will have to do it or suffer in personal silence while surrounded by incessant loud and inane chatter. And my headache is getting worse and now I have a pounding pain in my temples. And the noise with the constant barrage of words doesn’t stop. There might be a short break, but then it starts with double the intensity.
I understand the need for communication, especially in the workplace. But I don’t understand the need to be loud and keep on repeating the same point time after time. I don’t understand the need to constantly spew words that were already said and acknowledged. I don’t understand the need to keep talking after the point was made and resolved. I don’t understand the need to constantly say and hear words and subject everyone within a sizable range to listen, or even worse — to participate and be involved in meaningless conversations.
It seems to me that some (a lot? a majority? a substantial minority?) of people need to be stimulated by the continual sound of something. They need constant something/anything to fill their ears with the ladled clatter and humdrum hum. Or maybe they are afraid of the silence of being left with only their thoughts? This is a completely alien feeling and sensation for me, something that is beyond my powers of understanding and tolerance. And yet, being a part of society at large — there is not much I can do without being a loud-mouthed rude person myself. I guess the headaches will continue…
