Intermediate period
October 3rd, 2024
Maybe this time I am not a problem. Maybe this time it is not me who has an issue. Maybe it is not me blinking and missing passing seasonal changes. Maybe my sight is still very sharp and focused, but there is nothing to miss — blinking or not. Over the last few years, the temperate, intermediate periods between the seasons have shrank, almost not to exist at all. In spring, the transition from cold and dreary to intoxicating niceness was sudden and abrupt. One day it was cold and windy and I had to wear a warm jacket and gloves and a hat. The next day, I was wearing shorts and a T-shirt. It was the same with the coming of fall just last week or so. One day I was riding my bike in shorts and a T-shirt, and the next day I was shivering on a morning walk even though I was wearing a pullover and a jacket. And overnight temperatures drop so quickly that heating is already required. The days got shorter, but that happened gradually. A minute or so every day is not a big deal, and it was much easier to observe that phenomenon, but the temperature and weather changes were not possible to observe. It just happened. And I am sure that will continue on an even bigger scale over the next years. Oh, well — at least I can find solace in that my eyesight and my power of observation are still intact.
