footsteps of the Furies

In my professional career, I met a lot of people — some good, some bad, most easily forgettable, few memorable, and even fewer that I miss and still occasionally think about. That is a good thing about working for a corporation — people come and people go. In logistics where I work, you get to meet representatives from suppliers and clients and basically everybody who works on a particular site — from security guards to department managers. Through all my working career I developed a couple of friendships at work, but most of the time I just stay professional and polite and say and do the required minimum. And it works very well and I want to keep it this way.

But recently I’ve noticed something interesting — and I will say it bluntly: the sheer stupidity of people in charge is prevailing and mindboggling. In the last several months I get more and more involved in contacts and interactions with representatives from our client's side. People who work for the top, well know corporations worldwide, People who got to the high positions at those corporations. People who make strategic decisions that can either make or lose a lot of money for their companies. And yet a whole lot of them are stupid and with very limited mental capacities. Just thick and idiotic people. No matter how many times we try to explain something, or we try to present reasonable solutions, or find a middle ground between our capacity and their demand we are met with a complete lack of understanding. It seems that they don’t understand basic business or manufacturing terms, they keep asking for unrealistic things and take offense if they cannot get their way. If we present the given situation and explain all we did and the options we might have they always go back to — “this is not what we want, why don’t you/can’t you do what we want, do you even want our business?” Like a bunch of toddlers having a tantrum because they didn’t get their way. How the hell they get to these positions and responsibilities? I would think that some merit is required to progress in top corporations but apparently not — I guess being loud and stupid and with blind trust in their infallibility and lack of any self-reflection is enough.

I literally get sick after an hour of a teleconference with people like that. And to think that they actually are in the position of making important decisions….
