Lack of foresight
October 20th
Another short entry today — about something that bothers me a lot recently. I know that it is impossible to fully protect yourself from the Covid-19 virus but there were measures taken at the height of the pandemic that worked well and slowed down the infection rate. In the summer most of the restrictions were lifted, people were getting vaccinated — of course, not all of them — in the region where I live still less than 50% of the population is fully vaccinated. And now, over the last several weeks, new infection rates are going up very quickly, more people are needing hospitalization and unfortunately, deaths are up as well. I have an example of my co-worker that still is in a very tough situation with the virus, being under a respirator in the hospital. Most likely that could have been prevented if only he got the vaccination. I hear from my suppliers that they have to work with reduced staff because not only those that are infected are out on medical leave, but those that were in contact with them and are not vaccinated have to be quarantined. Another example — my car has been at mechanics for the last two weeks. I’ve been calling every day trying to get a straight answer when it will be fixed. Today finally owner admitted that it will be only next week because he has an employee infected with Covid-19 and the rest of his mechanics who are not vaccinated are quarantined and cannot work… This is a stunning lack of foresight on part of those who decided not to the vaccine and keep being a danger to themselves and others but also on the part of employees that let it happen and now they reap what they have sown. And we — who did everything by the book, listening to experts — have to deal now with this unpleasant mess that we have no control over.
