Prediction
March 21st
Well, more “good” news on yesterday. Record high temperatures in the Antarctic — not even close to what are they supposed to be at this time of year. And even around me, there are more and more completely wrong weather patterns for the second half of March. I mean — on one hand, I cannot complain. The weather for the last two weeks was simply gorgeous, not a cloud in the sky, only beautiful sunshine, and a temperature around 10C. On the other — not a drop of rain, which is so much needed for nature at this time of year. And 10C is at least 10 degrees higher than the average for March. And there is no rain in the forecast for the next two weeks as well, which means real drought for farmers this year. My alleges are already acting up too. I usually suffered them in May as a teenager, then as years went on — it was the end of April, then the middle of April, and this year it’s the middle of March… This is an easy conclusion to make for me, I wonder why more people don’t see it about themselves and their lives.
So, what are my predictions? In the short run — slowly creeping temperature increases, more drought, more unpredictable weather with floods and storms and heat waves out of season. In turn, that will lead to food shortages/food price increases, which will lead to deeper inflation, which will lead to devaluation of savings and pensions and hardship for many people. The inequality between one percenters and the rest of us will become an unbridgeable chasm.
In the long term — widespread famines, wars for resources (mostly water but oil and gas and coal as well), mass migrations, frequent changes of borders, and displacement of people. Wars for the acquisition of farmlands and aquifers. And a sharp reduction in the population of people outside the United States and China (those two countries will simply take what they will need from other countries to keep their population happy and fat and ignorant). The growth of a military class will be needed to keep the native population in check and expand living space for those particular countries.
We are spectacularly fucked. And the future generations even more so.
We had warnings about this situation for decades now. And not much was done — money and shares and financial returns are more important than a livable future. I see a lot of denial among people I know — they think something will happen, some technological advance that will save from upcoming doom. It won’t. And even if there is some solution, it will be available only to the richest people on Earth. And I know that those in power, those who could make a difference now, just don’t care — all those (mostly white and mostly men) people will be dead in the upcoming decades. But don’t they care at least about their children and grandchildren? I guess they think having money will be a solution to their problems and will give them easy living in the future decades. Well, it won’t. The global wars and unrest will affect everybody.
Cheers!
