Quality

Something different happened to me today, something unusual in a way that made me want to write about it. And it is actually about writing per se. You see, I wrote a post for this blog today that was in parts about Jerry Garcia and the deadheads cult following and about Henry David Thoreau and the concept of civil disobedience. A solid, a little run-of-the-mill, but still interesting post. And then, after checking style and grammar, right before I clicked “publish”, something stopped me. The cursor was hanging over the “publish” button for a while, but in the end, I decided not to post it. I decided not to write anything today, and as you can see — my decision was in vain since I am writing again and posting something on my blog. The original decision not to publish what I had already written was based mostly on the fact that what I wrote was very dry, like a high school essay with an interesting subject, but with no real skill in conveying my thoughts. I couldn’t be bothered to rewrite it, maybe one day I will go back to this subject and try again. But I knew that I can do better, that my writing is better than what was in that post. I guess, it happened that an exciting subject in my head became a painful bore when written in words. In the end, I decided that my strife for quality in writing overweight my need to share interesting thoughts when those thoughts cannot be shared up to my expectations. So instead — a couple of sentences about not publishing something. And I am quite pleased with those sentences and thoughts I share here today.
