Small pleasures
December 7th
I don’t remember when I tried sushi for the first time but from that moment on it was an ongoing love affair. I love to eat, I love to cook, I love to explore different cuisines, I love going out to restaurants — no matter if it is a fancy 3-star place or a greasy hole-in-the-wall place. I am lucky that over the years I was able to experience co much amazing variety of food and cooking. But still, above all — Japanese cuisine and sushi in all the varieties is my personal top.
Sushi, sashimi, maki, nigiri, salmon, tuna, yellowfin, eel, shrimp — love it all. I am fortunate that I was able to dine in some top-notch sushi restaurants around the world — Nobu and Masa in New York, Endo and Ohisama in London, and Sushi Sho in Stockholm — for an absolutely otherworldly taste and ambiance experience. Unfortunately for exquisite sushi, there is also a matter of a dear price — so this indulgence can only be infrequent.
There are several “OK” sushi restaurants where I live so that is a solution for my raw fish and rice cravings. Yet, that is not as frequent as I would like to. So, for Christmas I ordered for myself a couple of different sushi-making kits, I got some good leads on where to buy quality fish (locally and online) and I will start making my own. I have to say I am excited and curious about how it will turn out.
