Sustainability of mind

Simple, common wood is an amazing material — not only for its hundreds of uses but mostly for its natural ability to regrow and replenish. And all that can be accomplished without human efforts. Actually, the less humans do the better trees and forests can grow and expand and sustain the supply of material for our use. And yet, some people and nations are hell-bent on destroying the fragile balance between human needs and unchecked greed and destruction.
That is a simple thought for a wonderful day I had today — I took my mom and my aunt on a trip to a place with a name straight from old fairy tales — Land of Open Shutters. A short drive from where we live and a good place to spend a couple of hours. And the houses there, and especially the churches are built from wood. And they survived decades (even centuries) and wars and floods and fires and storms intact. Exactly like it is supposed to be and the forests still surround all the villages we visited today basking in their sustained use and regrowth.
I’ve noticed a strange thing today. As we drove there, on an absolutely perfect and gorgeous sunny mid-morning — I realized that no car I saw was speeding. Actually, everybody was driving below the speed limit, I guess to soak in the scenery and to make the moment last longer. No one was in a hurry, everybody was in an unspoken agreement that a day and place like that need slow driving and enjoyment of the visible instant. By mid-afternoon, when we were going back, that, unfortunately, was no longer the case…
I feel amazingly well today, I feel like every single thing about me and in me is in the right place. And if something is askew — I have no problem accepting the wrong angularity of it. I don't even think there is much I can do or change to get to some abstract better place or point. I feel whole and wholesome and complete. I want this feeling to last as long as possible, and knowing that it will end sometime — to remember it for the future that life can be beautiful in its simplicity and quietness. To remember this moment today as sustainment for thought days.
