Of all the things I don’t understand about the Universe and astrophysics, the idea of the Big Bang is fundamentally beyond the scope of my intelligence. Not the idea per se — with all the matter expanding in all directions and time and all the elements being created from it — that I can imagine. But the idea of the point where all the matter in the universe is condensed into the singularity is beyond any powers of my mind. How can that be?

Unless of course, now hear me out carefully, the point is not a point but an intersection. If, as I understand, every universe has multiple dimensions (and there are multiple universes) then the explanation can be easy. We live in a three-dimensioned universe. According to string theory, every universe has at least eleven dimensions. Of course, we cannot access or even imagine any other dimensions beyond our three. But that also means that every universe exists in two dimensions and by this logic — in one dimension as well.

Now, please imagine the whole universe in one dimension, in one line of indefinite length and no width — an extremely thin line. I cannot either… But I can imagine a line. And, if by a chance, that one-dimensional universe in form of a line, will intersect another universe in one dimension as another line — then we will have an intersection point where all the matter and energy of two universes collide. And that is the big bang — the explosion from the point of all the matter and energy that is our universe now — in three dimensions and more.

Of course, it is quite interesting to think about what will happen to those universes which collided in one-dimensional form. Does it mean that they will stop existing in other dimensions as well? Will it mean that two completely made and possibly containing intelligent life universes will simply stop existing? Now, that is not a pleasant thought. But that might or might not be a part of the plot of the book I plan to write. If, of course, our universe will keep on going for a while, enough for me to finish writing it. Or actually, start writing it…
