Tulips have arisen!
March 3rd, 2023
I don't exactly know when it happened, it looks like it might have been three to four days ago. I didn't notice it as it was happening, and I feel a little disappointed in myself for that. But, honestly — who would think about looking for tulips breaking out from the ground at the beginning of March? And this is not a good time to look downwards in general — in the late winter it is better not to pay any attention to the sights at the foot level. This is the time when there is no more snow, and yet there isn't any greenery sprouting from the soil — so all the garbage thrown out by idiots and morons and assholes is clearly visible everywhere. And there is a lot of garbage — bottles (glass and plastic, and the glass ones usually broken), cans, empty cigarette or food packets, and bags of all kinds just everywhere I look. Of course — not along main streets or among the houses and apartments and sidewalks, but it is enough to walk a short walk here or there to see it. So, this is the time for me to avoid looking downward.
That is why I missed the exact moment when it happened. And I don't want to miss the exploding cornucopia of spring this year, I want to see and experience everything as it happens. I thought I still might have some time, but it already started, so the next weeks will require constant attention. And the tulips in my garden, just breaking from the ground, not even fragile but rather robust for this time of year are a good reminder of that. I don't remember how many years ago I planted several bulbs of tulips along the sidewalk, and I don't remember how many — but surely no more than ten. And within those years they spread all over the garden — by themselves and through the amazing process of self-seeding. Now they still cluster along the sidewalk where they were originally planted but also in several quite random spots. And they started growing again as a reminder of the long-awaited change of seasons. I feel happy with that — not only with the fact that soon I will have beautiful flowers in my garden, not only because the real spring is about to start the renewal of all nature — but mostly because the process I started years ago by planting few tulips is still going on strong. And going on by itself, by the amazing power of natural regrowth and recovery after the winter. May it long continue and may I long am able to enjoy it.
