We have come a long way

That is a door. A door that has been used since the XV century when St. Gertrude Church in Kaunas was built. A door used by countless people, priests, nobles, and commoners. Now, those doors are still in use — they lead to the sacristy of the said church, but I have doubts if an average-sized person can get in without some kind of gymnastics. A child may be able to walk through them without a problem. It is a known fact that centuries ago people were smaller than we are today and that is illustrated here perfectly. One photo (or one look in person) is better than any dry explanation of it. We as people change constantly — I can see the difference in the size of an average person that happened within one generation and is still going on where a 12-year-old can be of my size (I am 180cm tall) and it doesn’t surprise anybody. We also change mentally, mostly with acceptance of new ways in which we live our lives (like the internet) and with proper and inclusive behavior toward others — and again, I see this change happening within my lifetime. That leads me to the question — why are some people hell-bent on trying to enforce conservatism and going back to some imaginary perfect time in the past? Conservatism never wins in the long term — there is simply no stopping human progress. So why try to force other people for a temporary detour that will not accomplish anything?
